Bess Marvin is often described as “overweight” and “chubby” in the Nancy Drew books series with a hearty appetite towards food and desserts. And yet, compared to her slimmer friend Nancy Drew and the more slender and athletic cousin George Fayne, Bess is always the first to catch a boy’s eyes and gets invited out to dates, dinner and dances.
